Cumbrian schoolboy Lyle walks out of his life and up into the mountains of the Lake District. On the edge of a mountain lake, he meets Jake, whose life is as far removed from Lyle’s as possible. Over the course of 24 hours together, they each discover they are no longer sure who they really are or what the future holds for them. At the mercy of the elements, all they have is each other.
Chris Salt's play fell is a compelling and moving story of two funny, sensitive lads trapped by a lack of hope and facing the challenges of being young adults in a rural community.
It toured the Lake District and the North West in February 2020. Further tours were postponed due to the pandemic but we’re now touring again Autumn 2023 and looking to develop an open air promenade version for summer 2024 - contact ddeborahjd@gmail.com for information.
In the two-year hiatus Chris Salt was commissioned by the BFI to turn ‘fell’ into a screenplay. This is now a project in development with Liverpool-based Hurricane Films.

Edgeways, in association with ACE, Cumbria Youth Alliance, and Kirkgate Arts, ran a series of workshops in West Cumbria around the themes of bullying, masculinity, emotional resilience and abuse. The film of these brilliant engagements can be found here.
‘fell’ was developed further during a residency at Kirkgate Arts into two work-in-progress performances at the end of February.
